Read about what's new and the credits.
There are two editions of the Toolbox, one for Excel® 2007 and another one for Excel® 2003 and earlier. The installer automatically determines which files to install, and can activate (turn on) the add-in in Excel® for you.
System requirements
- Microsoft® Excel® 2000, XP, 2007, or 2010; 64-bit compatible only with Excel 2010.
- Microsoft® Windows 2000, XP, Vista, or Windows 7.
- Harddrive space: roughly 12 MB.
Demo files
Here are some demo files with made-up data to play with:
- XLToolbox-Demo.xlsx (20 kB; Excel® 2007)
- XLToolbox-Demo.xls (85 kB; Excel® 2003)
Installing the Toolbox
The setup program will copy the addin and supporting files to Excel's addin folder in your personal user profile. It will also 'turn on' the XL Toolbox in Excel for you. (It is not necessary to manually activate the addin.)
If you experience problems while installing or after install, check out the support page.
The Excel addin folder is typically located at (on an English-language machine): c:\documents and settings\username\application data\Microsoft\addins.
Installing for all users on the computer
If you have a multi-user environment and want to install the Toolbox for all users at once, you need to manually copy the file(s) from your profile folder to the XLStart folder, e.g.:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\XLSTART
Besides the actual addin file, you may want to copy the subfolder XLToolbox\) too; it contains the help file and other supporting files.
When an addin is installed in the XLStart folder, it is not necessary to activate it from within Excel.
Hint: A handy shortcut to your personal profile folder is: Start--Run--%appdata%--ENTER.
API
The XL Toolbox offers a minimal API for Visual Basic developers. Functions will be added over time.

Export graphs in a format suitable for journal submission:
- TIFF, PNG, EMF;
- black & white, grayscale, RGB, CMYK;
- 100-2400 DPI;
- Export several graphs as one multi-panel figure, obviating the need for illustrator software.
Chart design
Apply your own professional style to your graphs with a few mouse clicks. No more thin blue lines on a gray background!
"Smart" custom error bars:
Apply error bars to your bar/column and line/scatter plots. Features: Smart placement & formatting.
Spread scatter
Visualize the true distribution of your data by automatically pull apart the data points in a grouped scatter plot.
Annotate charts
Add annotations from spreadsheet cell comments to a chart.
Highlight individual data points by applying color from source cells.
Move or extend chart range
Browse through your data, and append new data to an existing chart.
Quick save chart(s)
Save the selected chart or all charts in a worksheet/workbook to graphic files.
Copy chart format
Select style features of a chart and copy them to other charts in your worksheet/workbook.
Chart watermarks
Add your initials, the current date, or any other information to a chart.
Change chart size
Set the chart size in inches, millimeters, or points in Excel 2000-2003.
Point chart to sheet
When copying & pasting a chart from one worksheet to another, the chart may still reference data on the original worksheet. Use this function to quickly fix this problem.
Autoscale chart font (Excel 2003 only)
Enable or disable automatic font adjustment when a chart is resized.
Add many chart series
Add many series at once to a chart.
Promote/demote chart series
Move chart series to the foreground or background easily.
ANOVA
Perform 1-way or 2-way Analysis of Variance (optionally with repeated measures) and posthoc tests.
Formula builder
The formula builder collects cell references for your data to create formulas – averages, standard errors, etc.
Group allocation ("randomization")
Allocate study subjects to treatment groups according to baseline criteria.
Linear regression
Perform linear regression analysis and optionally compare slopes and intercepts of several regressions. Test the statistical significance of the regression(s).
Pearson product-moment coefficient
Perform linear correlation analysis and calculate the Pearson product-moment coefficient. Test the statistical significance of the correlation.
Transpose data
Reorganize any data from table format to a list. Optionally calculates averages and SD/SEM for you. Great for plate readers & PCR output in the life sciences!
Selection Assistant
Choose which rows and columns to select from a larger range of cells: Use for table formatting, special copying tasks, etc.
Histogram
Calculate frequencies from your data. The "multi" in Multi Histogram means that you can combine several columns of data into one histogram – useful when analyzing several fields of view in a microscope.
Automatic backups
Keep backup copies of your Excel files: Several versions per day, and one additional copy for the most recent couple of days.
Copy page setup
Copy headers, footers, margins, paper size, and other properties of the page setup from the current sheet to the other sheets in the workbook.
Special paste
Define paste actions that you can invoke with a keyboard shortcut.
Sheet management
Add, delete, rename, and move sheets in a convenient list rather than those flimsy tabs.
Undo
The XL Toolbox supports Undo for all features (within the limits of Excel).
